Set in 1860s Siam, The King and I is a sweeping Rodgers & Hammerstein classic that explores the power of understanding across cultures — with a lush score and timeless themes of love, respect, and change.
When British schoolteacher Anna Leonowens arrives in Bangkok to tutor the many children of the imperious and modernizing King of Siam, cultures clash — and so do tempers. Anna’s strong-willed independence challenges the King’s traditional views, while the King’s pride tests Anna’s patience. Yet as they navigate their differences, a deep and complex bond forms between them.
Meanwhile, forbidden love, political intrigue, and questions of progress unfold within the palace walls — all set to unforgettable songs such as “Getting to Know You,” “Shall We Dance?,” and “Something Wonderful.”
Graceful, powerful, and emotionally rich, The King and I is a story of unexpected connection and enduring change, where East meets West — and hearts open.
